Diabetes: Symptoms, causes, and treatments

Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood sugar (glucose) is too high.

Having too much glucose in your blood can cause health problems -diabetes.

Although diabetes has no cure you can prevent or manage your diabetes.

TYPES OF DIABETES

1.Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is caused when your body does not make insulin.Your immune system attacks and destroys cells that make insulin in your body.

Children and young adults are most likely to be diagnosed with diabetes (although it can appear at any age).

Patients with Type 1 diabetes have to take insulin everyday to stay alive.

2.Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is caused when your body does not use or make insulin well.

Type 2 diabetes occurs most often often in older people even in middle-aged.

3.Gestational Diabetes

This type of diabetes occurs in some pregnant women but it goes away after delivery.

"If you've had this type of diabetes you have a greater chance of developing Type 2 diabetes"

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES

*Increased thirst

*Excess urination

*Increased hunger

*Blurred vision

*Numbness/tingling in the feet even hands

*Sores that do not heal

*Unexplained weight loss

*Fatigue

EFFECTS OF DIABETES

The following are *some* of the effects of diabetes:

1.Development Of Neuropathy/Nerve Damage

This is causes numbness or pain in arms, legs, feet and toes due to blood vesst not delivering enough oxygen.


2.Damage On Blood Vessels In The Kidney

High sugar levels damage blood vessels in  the  kidney this damage prevents kidneys from filtering waste products out of the blood.

3.Slow Healing

People with diabetes do not heal as quickly as others due to poor circulation which reduces the flow of Oxygen, blood and nutrients.

WAYS TO PREVENT DIABETES

1.Exercise regularly

Physical exercises helps to reduce weight, reduce glucose levels and improve blood pressure and cholesterol.

2.Eat a well balanced diet

Eat  more vegetables and high fibre foods, cut back on salt. Reduce amount of fats in your diet more especially saturated fats and trans fats.

3.Limit processed and takeaway foods

It is best to cook  for yourself because processed and takeaway foods are usually high in salts, fats and kilojoules.

4.Control your blood pressure

You can achieve this by doing some physical exercises and also eating a well balanced diet.

5.See your doctor for regular check up

It’s a good idea to regularly check your blood glucose, blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels.
